Zürcher Opernhaus

It is considered to be one of the most famous opera houses in Europe. It has been the Zürich Opera’s home since 1891. The opera house is visited by the President of the Swiss Confederation and the economic and cultural elite of Switzerland. The magnificent building with a neo-classical façade of white and grey stone is located in front of Lake Zürich and Bellevue-Place where the traditional Sechseläuten takes place.

Schauspielhaus Zürich

It is not only the main theatre complex of the city but also one of the most significant German-speaking theatres. This theatre was home to such famous emigrants as Bertolt Brecht and Thomas Mann. Schauspielhaus Zürich has also presented the works of Max Frisch, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Botho Strauss and Elfriede Jelinek.

Theater am Neumarkt

It is one of the oldest theatres of Zürich. The theatre was founded by the old guilds in the Old City District. It is located in a baroque building near Niederdorf Street. The theatre is oriented basically towards modern performances.

Theater Gessnerallee

It is a young theatre which is considered to be the most experimental stage in the city. It presents ballet and breakdance performances, its own productions and guest-shows from all over the world. You can also visit the restaurant and bar also located here.

Theater an der Sihl

It is the official theater of the Zürich Academy of Dance and Theatre. The building is located next to the Theater Gessnerallee and the Bahnhofstrasse (which is the main shopping street of the city).

Rote Fabrik Theater

The Rote Fabrik self-governed cultural centre stands on the shore of Lake Zürich in the district of Wollishofen. It offers avant-garde theatrical performances, concerts and discos. You can also visit Ziegel au Lac, both a restaurant and a bar, which is also situated here.
